Feyerabend (1992) describes the theory-ladenness inherent in instantiating the natural kind category, "red": "Recognizing a colour as red is made possible by deep-lying assumptions concerning the structure of our surroundings and recognition does not occur when these assumptions cease to be applicable" (p. 158).
